In October 1971, KIRKBYS COBALT – IS HSH (ABBEY – FS HSH/Miss Radiant by Bignalls Radiant) was a foundation stock horse registered as number 79. Cobolt won the Australian Championship at Glen Innes in 1970 as a four-year-old. Cobalt had 196 registered progeny and can still be seen in the pedigrees of Kirkbys Stud horses today. His daughter, KIRKBYS ABALEEN – IM HSH, KIRKBYS BIKINI – IM HSH, KIRKBYS CALCIUM – HSH, KIRKBYS CLOWDY – HSH, and KIRKBYS RUBY – HSH, have produced progeny that have won some of the country’s most prestigious events.
A mare Phillip still said was one of his best, even up until his death, was KIRKBYS ABALEEN – IM HSH (Cobalt/Storm Glory), who is the dam of KIRKBYS STUD EPAULET – IM HSH and KIRKBYS STUD COLLEEN – HSH and still has an impact on the stud today with KIRKBYS STUD WHITE ROSE – HSH being a current broodmare.
