KIRKBYS STUD ELVIS – HSH has proven himself as an open campdraft stallion, notably winning the 2022 Paradise Lagoon Stallion Campdraft, and winning the ABCRA All Round Campdraft Horse of the Year. He won the first round of the 2025 Phillip Kirkby Memorial Stallion Draft at the ASH Nationals with Bernie McMaugh, scoring an impressive 91. He’s won and placed multiple times in Ladies Campdrafts with Rachael McMaugh, and made the 2025 Nutrien Classic Charlie Maher Young Guns Campdraft with Travis Sansom, running an 88. Elvis is also the 2019 King of the Ranges Novice Challenge Champion, the only challenge he has competed in, highlighting his versatility.

Elvis has a pedigree that carries a double cross of WARRENBRI OMEGA – IS HSH and ABDUL – IS HSH, with both stallion’s influence at Kirkbys Stud and the broader Australian Stock Horse industry being hard to overstate. Omega won the Warwick Gold Cup in 1990 and runner-up again in 1996. He was exceptionally quiet, with power, athleticism and outstanding cow sense—traits that became hallmarks of his foals with Elvis closely resembling his grandsire in look, type and natural ability.

Elvis is exceptionally quiet in temperament yet an elite competitor—an essential combination in our breeding philosophy. While we aim to breed successful campdraft horses, we want them to be genuine all‑rounders that suit a wide range of riders, and Elvis ticks all of those boxes – he is cool-minded, with loads of cow sense, an athletic build with substance and bone, a quick walker with desire to work, and from an exceptionally strong maternal line that has produced campdrafters, Royal Show and National champions, exported showjumpers, polocrosse horses, and challenge campions.

Pedigree

KIRKBYS STUD ECHO – HSH has won both open and ladies’ campdrafts (scoring up to 91) and won the Champion Working 3-year-old class at the ASHS National Championships in Dubbo, and the following year took out the Reserve Champion Working as a 4-year-old.

Echo carries the bloodlines of two of the most influential stallions used in the stud, WARRENBRI OMEGA and ADIOS REFLECT, and is from one of the most successful mares in KIRKBYS STUD ORCHY.

Adios Reflect was an open campdraft winner and twice won the ABCRA National Finals Novice Draft. He is a full brother to BARONA SELECT – HSH, an outstanding mare who won over 200 campdrafts, and is the granddam of ADIOS FLO JO – HSH (2004 Canning Downs Campdraft winner and the 2005 ABCRA Open Horse of the Year). Reflect’s full brother BARONA DIRECT – HSH ran second in the 1985 Canning Downs campdraft and is the sire of SHAMROCK NADIA – HSH (winner of the 1993 Warwick Gold Cup campdraft and the Canning Downs Campdraft) and BARONA HORNET – HSH (winner of 18 drafts, including 10 opens).

Echo’s dam, KIRKBYS STUD ORCHY – HSH, won 10 campdrafts and was second in the 1998 Canning Downs at Warwick. Orchy was by Warrenbri Omega who won the Warwick Gold Cup in 1990 and runner-up again in 1996, and Omega’s sire, WARRENBRI ROMEO – IS HSH, was arguably one of the most influential ASH stallions to date. Orchy is the dam of KIRKBYS STUD MIRACLE – HSH a highly accomplished mare, winning open and juvenile campdrafts and was uncannily quick on cattle, reflecting the hallmark performance of her dam line. Orchy’s dam, KIRKBYS STUD EPAULET – IM HSH, is considered an Elite Campdraft Producing Mare (see Dan Redgen campdraft statistics or the Aug/Sep 2025 edition of the Australian Campdraft Magazine). Epaulet is a granddaughter of foundation mare KIRKBYS STORM GLORY – FS HSH, who is a cornerstone of the stud and has a number of decedents in the stud including KIRKBYS STUD MARVEL (Hazelwood Conman x KS Miracle), KIRKBYS STUD SHIMMER (Eagle Hustler x Wallah Reflection), KIRKBYS STUD WHITE ROSE (Chevin Ivory x KS Rosalie).

KIRKBYS STUD MADONNA – HSH was a novice campdraft mare who has also produced other campdraft winning progeny in SHEROS VOGUE – HSH (a young novice campdraft mare after her second start with Cortney Lockhart), SHEROS CONNIE (campdraft winner with Will Dirkin), and SHEROS BANDIT (successful campdrafter for Ben Hall).

Madonna’s dam, POLO LASS – IM HSH, produced ten foals for the Kirkbys, Rathcool, and Willdraft studs.

Polo Lass is the dam of KIRKBYS STUD CATNAP (a mare retained in the stud who produced a showjumping gelding exported to Japan), KIRKBYS STUD TEAK (dam of campdraft and challenge winners), RATHCOOL DOWSET – HSH (sire campdraft placegetters before being gelded), and WILLDRAFT JUSTIFY – HSH (successful open campdrafter).

Madonna is a full sister to KIRKBYS STUD THEO (Aus) – HSH, KIRKBYS STUD PEARL – HSH, KIRKBYS STUD MODEL – HSH, and WILLDRAFT DANCE – HSH. Theo was the first stallion to win the double – the ASH National Futurity in 2004 and the National Maturity in 2005 – and the first stallion to sire progeny in the USA. Pearl was a successful open-winning campdraft mare for the Acton family. Model is the dam of Tom Armytage’s WOODRIDGE HENRYETTA (a multi-open winning mare and dam of SHALDON HARRIET, a novice mare), and BOBADIL FASHION (sold for $25,000 at the 2014 Dalby ASH sale and now an open campdraft winner with Marcus Curr). Dance is the dam of working champions and campdraft winners.

Performance Highlights

During his maiden campdrafting campaign, Elvis secured impressive 15 placings in maiden, novice, and ladies campdrafts before suffering a knee fracture in a paddock accident. It was during this campaign that Elvis won the ABCRA Maiden and All Round Horse of the Year Titles. After an 18‑month break to recover, Elvis returned to campdrafting and, on just his second start back, went on to win the prestigious Paradise Lagoons Stallion Campdraft in 2022. Elvis remains sound and enjoying his campdraft career where he has won or placed in 6 ladies campdrafts with Rachael and many open drafts with Bernie. We’re excited to see what the new phase produces with David Murphy this year.
