Phillip actively shaped the development of Australian equestrian sports and livestock breeding. Firstly, he was an influential founding member of the Australian Stock Horse Association (ASHS), where he spent 26 years on the board and was also the chairman for a number of years. In addition, he also helped establish the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) and the Australian Bushmen’s Campdraft and Rodeo Association (ABCRA), where he spent 14 years as a board member. Phillip was also a passionate advocate for the National Campdraft Council Australia (NCCA), where he was the inaugural vice chairman and was the chairman for 7 years.

Throughout his life, Phillip dedicated himself to producing predictable livestock and focused on strong dam lines, and consistently aimed to breed the best. He integrated visual assessment, genetics, and scientific methods into his breeding practices. Notably, Phillip is reportedly the only person to have competed in five categories—horses, cattle, sheep, poultry, and vegetables—at the Sydney Royal Easter Show in a single year.

Phillip’s impact was recognised through two significant honours. Firstly, an Honorary Life Membership in the ASHS in 2015 and then the Warwick Show and Rodeo Society’s Warwick Tribute to Australian Campdrafting in 2019. He was also an Honorary Life Member of the Santa Gertrudis Association.

With both parents deeply involved with horses, Liz naturally developed a passion for all things equine. While mustering cattle was an integral part of learning to ride, Liz also excelled at other horse sports, which included polocrosse, show jumping, one day eventing, and hacking. As a result, she won best player awards in polocrosse and competed successfully at Royal shows. Currently, Liz competes in varied cattle horse sports.

After leaving school, Liz focused on cattle breeding, although horses were bred and used as station horses. These station horses were registered using the prefix WALLAH, with their breeding seen in Kirkbys Stud horses today. Liz took great pleasure in breeding and educating the horses her children, Nick and Sophia, learnt to ride on.

Within the cattle industry, Liz was a managing partner of Manchee Agriculture for 25 years and served a decade-long tenure on the Shorthorn Beef board, which included five years as vice president. In 2016, Liz earned a Nuffield Scholarship to research antibiotic-free feedlot production, and she was also the 2011 NSW Farmer of the Year runner-up, a 2024 Sydney Royal Hordern Trophy judge, and a 2021 Sydney Royal Urquhart Trophy judge. Public speaking commitments include the 2017 Growing the Business of Agriculture Symposium at Sydney University and the 2011 New Zealand National Beef Expo.
