What a fab weekend with our 5 horses coming home with 6 ribbons from the Western District Campdraft on the weekend. COOLUM OVATION broke her maiden status by winning the Maiden B by a two point margin with an 88 and an 85. She backed up her win by making the final of the Novice with another 88 point run.

White horse, white ribbon – at least they match perfectly, even if it’s not the blue one we were chasing! We’re super happy that KIRKBYS STUD ELVIS snagged 3rd in the Restricted Open at the 2026 Maldon Campdraft, after putting together two challenging but consistent rounds.

Hamilton Campdraft was a cracker. Not only was it the first draft of the season, but it also marked the debut run and first win for MCNAMARA CONBRACE and David Murphy. The pair hit the ground running, scoring an impressive 91 in their first round, then backing it up with an 83 in the final to take out the Palmers Transport Maiden A Campdraft.

It’s finally time to reveal our new stallion, the one that’s got us 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘂𝗽! We are stoked to welcome to the stud 𝗞𝗜𝗥𝗞𝗕𝗬𝗦 𝗦𝗧𝗨𝗗 𝗘𝗟𝗩𝗜𝗦 – 𝗛𝗦𝗛, who is exceptionally quiet in temperament yet an elite open campdraft competitor—an essential combination for our breeding philosophy. We aim to breed genuine all‑rounders that suit a wide range of riders, and Elvis ticks the box. He is cool-minded, with loads of cow sense, an athletic build with substance and bone, and a quick walker with desire to work.

As another year draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on what Kirkbys Stud has achieved and looking ahead to what is still to come. Only recently, while researching our foundation broodmares, did I realise that 2024 marked our 70th anniversary.

We’re absolutely thrilled to officially welcome MCNAMARA CONBRACE to our mare band. Conbrace was purchased for an incredible $170,000 at this year’s Dalby Stock Horse Sale, she set a new sale record and turned plenty of heads. Ironically, we hadn’t planned on buying any horses that day—but sometimes the right one just finds you.

With Dalby Australian Stock Horse Sale only a week away, I figured I should do a post on our sale horse, Kirkbys Stud Pasito. Pasito is a 3-year-old gelding by Kirkbys Stud Counterfeit and out of Wallah Eve (Warrenbri Omega x Gay Illusion). Pasito is a double cross of Omega and has the cool mindedness you’d expect.

Even though I come from a campdraft family, I didn’t have the chance to compete, so being able to have a go has been a long-held aspiration. It was my third ever campdraft start and I placed 4th in the Encouragement Draft riding Kirkbys Stud Marvel, which was a fun, and possibly addictive experience.

What a fabulous result at the ASHS National Campdraft with all three mares placing. COOLUM OVATION was Miss Consistency, especially as this is her fourth ever draft. Ovation had 7 runs for 5 gates and placed =6th in the Maiden Series and 8th in the Novice. KASPERS VERSACE won the Mare Campdraft Cutout and CLEARCHOICE CONTIKI placed 4th in the Open.
