I received ASH Hall of Fame certificates in today’s mail and reflect on the legacy of these two mares, KIRKBYS WHITEY – FM HSH and KIRKBYS STUD COLLEEN – IM HSH, and how they continue to influence the Australian Stock Horse breed. It was an ironic coincidence that as I was compiling KIRKBYS WHITEY’s story when I opened the mail.

For Clearchoice Contiki to be in the final 32 competitors of the 2025 Willinga Park Gold Buckle is beyond awesome. There were 348 first and second-round starters and 121 semi-finalists, and although it wasn’t the finish that David Murphy and Clearchoice Contiki were aiming for, wow—what an incredible mare!

Clearchoice Contiki won the Huf Building Novice title at the Wannon River Campdraft on Sunday, 13th April 2025, with scores of 89 and 89, followed by a solid 87 in a runoff.
This win is just the latest chapter in the exciting journey of Contiki and David Murphy. Having only competed in four campdrafts together, this duo has already racked up two wins and two seconds.

What’s the best way to break a Novice status? Win an Open! That’s exactly what happened when Kaspers Versace won the Hawkesdale Open Campdraft. She broke her Novice status on by winning the Open with an 89 and 88. Versace also ran 4th in the Southern Grampians Livestock & Real Estate Open, running an 90 and 86.

CLEARCHOICE CONTIKI was the queen of consistency at the 50th Western District Campdraft on the weekend…warming up with an equal 2nd in Friday’s maiden (85/88), followed by a 2nd after a runoff in Saturday’s maiden (88/86/89), and then broke her maiden status by winning Sunday’s maiden (89/87). All this from her second start with David Murphy.

Continuing her impressive streak, KASPERS VERSACE has had 4 starts, 4 finals, & 3 places, quickly forming a formidable partnership with David Murphy. Over the weekend at the Maldon and District Campdraft Club their talents shone once more, with Versace securing 3rd place in the Novice Draft and a spot in the Open Draft final.

After meeting for the first time on Friday, KASPERS VERSACE and David Murphy (Murphy Performance Horses), placed 2nd in the Novice and 4th in the Open at the Skipton and District Campdraft on the weekend. What a campdrafting duo these two will become!

It seems to be the season for colt foals…again! 2024 saw all three mares produce colts…making six colts from eight foals in the last three years. This years foals are sired by Eagle Hustler, One Stylish Pepto, and Kirkbys Stud Counterfeit.

I joined Sarah on her 5,500 km Outback Long Ride across outback NSW and QLD, riding her two horses, Shifty and Sally. It was a fabulous experience being her support driver for a week, getting to know Sarah and hearing her story. Her ambition is to raise $250k for Pancare in memory of her late parents.

The 50th Annual Dalby Stock Horse Sale commemorated its golden anniversary, and to celebrate, the Kirkbys Stud sponsored a Memory Lane. Kirkbys Stud was proud to support this fantastic event, reflecting on the memories and achievements that have shaped the Dalby Stock Horse Sale since it commenced in 1974.
